That way you can better focus on the tasks in front of you. For example, if you have Work Focus on with Safari, you’ll only see tabs that pertain to work. Now, you can add Focus Filters within specific apps as well, including Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari. You can choose from preset options like Do Not Disturb, Commuting, Sleep, Personal, Driving, and Work, or create your own. Last year, Apple introduced Focus Mode-a feature that lets you create profiles to limit certain distractions and alerts on your Mac. It works the other way, too you can start a FaceTime call on your Mac and move it over to your iPad or iPhone. So, if you’re on a FaceTime call on your iPhone, your Mac will recognize that you’re nearby and show a prompt asking whether you want to move the call over to your Mac. Rather than hanging up and restarting a FaceTime call whenever you want to switch to another device, the new Handoff feature in Ventura allows you to simply transfer the call to another machine. The result looks as though you’re using two cameras-one pointed at you, one pointing down. It does this by utilizing the wide field of view of the ultrawide lens on the iPhone and computationally pulling apart the image to create two separate views. A feature called Desk View, compatible with the iPhone 11 and later, shows your face and an overhead video of your desk at the same time. With the Studio Light feature on the iPhone 12 and later, the camera will brighten your face while dimming the background. The company also teamed up with Belkin to release a circular plastic mount that snaps onto your iPhone so the handset’s camera can be easily positioned at the top of a MacBook’s display.Īpple threw in a couple of additional features that take advantage of the iPhone’s advanced optics. From there you can take advantage of the same features you’d find on recent Mac cameras, including Center Stage and Portrait Mode. You’re now able to see your entire home in one feed, making it easier to navigate and organize all of your smart home accessories. The Home app received a long overdue redesign. Passkeys will sync across all your iCloud-enabled devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, in addition to Mac (with end-to-end encryption). The two devices talk to each other, and with that, you’re logged in. Instead of typing in a password when you land on a login page, you’ll be prompted on your Mac’s screen to pick up your iPhone or iPad and use either Touch ID or Face ID to verify your identity. Passkeys are stored on only your device and never on a web server, so they are virtually immune to phishing attacks. The feature will work in the FaceTime app, too-with the addition of speaker attribution Mail App FeaturesĪpple is on a mission to kill traditional passwords, and it’s teamed up with the FIDO Alliance to create a secure passwordless sign-in system called Passkeys. When using Live Captions during a call on a Mac, you can also type what you want to say via Type to Speak and have your response spoken out loud for others in real time. The feature, which is in beta, automatically transcribes audio for media, calls, and in-person conversations. Live CaptionsĪpple is introducing Live Captions for those who are deaf and hard of hearing to Macs with an M-series chip. With access to shared playback controls, everyone’s content is always in sync. Instead of FaceTime, you can watch a movie or listen to music with friends and family in a group chat. You can now take advantage of SharePlay via Messages too. Since Messages runs on many of Apple’s devices, these features are also available on iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. Meanwhile, those who have read receipts can mark a message as unread, which will hopefully ease the pressure to respond right away. You can also recover deleted texts for up to 30 days. With MacOS Ventura, you can edit messages up to 15 minutes after sending them and delete them up to two minutes after. SharePlay is being incorporated into Messages in the next version of MacOS.
